Visual Artist Rangoli Garg is a self-taught artist, who born and brought up in Lucknow. After completing her higher education Post Graduation in Business Administration from Lucknow she settled in Hyderabad where her passion for colors and desire to portray Indian women, helped her to move on her journey as an artist. She kept on improvising her art and shown her talent in many solo and group shows in India and abroad.
About her paintings:
ENTWINED: This is a new series of paintings, by the artist, which depicts the various moods, beliefs and scenes of women in different stages of their lives. The artist reinstates the grace, dream, strength and delicate sensitivity of womanhood through her paintings in which she gives shape to her inspiration derived from various interesting forms of Indian art. She weaves her life around her surroundings and responsibilities but her dreams still occupy most of her existence. Women and their emotions are well portrayed by the artist who is mesmerised with the charm, beauty, emotions, passions and grace of feminism.
A plethora of emotions are ushered as the women share themselves with the other women who could be her sisters, friends, daughters etc. The composed, diffident looking damsels in the works, imbibe and behold within their entities the subtle undercurrent of dreams for a beautiful future. The huge lotus shaped, soulful, half closed eyes are meditative and introspective at the same time. They choose not to look straight into the eyes of viewer and thus create an interesting movement of energy that flows within the picture surface. The subdued, subtle stances of the heads and hands all together create a harmony which is not loud but is soft and tranquilizing. These women appear to be responding to the flow of a soothing and heart-warming music. At times artist accompanies her protagonists with metaphorical elements like flowers and musical instrument and these accelerate the allegorical strength of the paintings. The women with their subdued stances manifest quiet conversations and understanding which needs no words or long animated exchange of verbal expression. They are closely knit together into a strong bond.
Line plays a prominent role in the artist’s dialogue. Continuous, sweeping, rhythmic and starkly visible, it defines the periphery of figures. This quality and essence of liner forms exemplify a connection of Indian traditional / folk painting style. The colour palette too is earthy, flamboyant and rich in Indian ethos. The background space of these paintings is rendered in abstract play of ambiguous form. In some paintings, we see Rangoli depicting the girls and women in the various stages of their lives e.g. childhood, adolescence and marriage. Her works portray a transition from the traditional to a modern India. The canvases dialogue with the onlooker, with the intensity of narration of an Indian tale.
Rangoli has twice displayed her works at India Habitat Centre, Delhi, World Trade Centre, Dubai and Singapore. She has also been awarded for her work in the direction of women upliftment.
