About the Artist – Mona Jain

Born in 1975 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Mona Jain is a contemporary Indian visual artist whose journey into the world of art is as inspiring as her creations. A late bloomer in the formal art world, Mona’s unwavering passion for painting led her to pursue formal education in fine arts two decades after marriage, all while balancing the roles of a mother, wife, and daughter-in-law. Her story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of creativity.

Mona began her artistic path alongside her literature studies, later training at the Art College in Indore, completing a postgraduate course at Rachana Sansad College of Arts in Mumbai, and refining her techniques with courses from the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art. Her work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across major Indian cities such as Indore, Bhopal, Delhi, Baroda, and Ahmedabad.

Initially recognized for her realistic portraiture in oil, Mona’s evolving spiritual journey led her to embrace abstraction. Her recent works embody a minimalist aesthetic, exploring the subtle interplay of tone and texture. With intuitive strokes and layered compositions, she weaves together fragments of memory, emotion, and the metaphysical, inviting viewers into imagined worlds where the personal meets the universal.

Mona Jain’s paintings are meditative explorations of the self and the universe. Working with a restrained color palette, she creates multi-layered works that speak softly yet powerfully. In one of her signature pieces, Mona seamlessly fuses the sacred and the earthly by merging the form of a divine bull with the essence of a bustling ancient city. Warm golden hues and soft textures depict temples, Ghats, and miniature human figures within the bull’s contours, narrating stories of devotion and everyday life. The work reflects the seamless coexistence of spirituality, nature, and humanity—a poetic tribute to India's eternal cultural spirit.
