Mithila Traditional Art is one of the most ancient traditional art in India. It was first drawn on the wall during the marriage of Lord Shri Ram with Goddess Sita in Mithila, the birthplace of Sita. That is why it is called Mithila Traditional Art. But the artists who first draw this painting were from the Madhubani (Bihar) district of Mithila, hence called Madhubani Painting.
This scene is showing a very traditional custom in Mithila-Bihar. This is a Doli scene. In cities, after a marriage of a girl, she is generally being used to carrying in a car from her home to her Sasural (her husband’s home). But even today in Mithila, Dulhan (a newly-married girl) has to go to Sasural in Doli (Palaki). This Doli is carried by two men on their solder followed by Dulha and relatives. Even Goddess Sita came to Ayodhya (birthplace of Lord Shri Ram) her Sasural on Doli according to the custom. Mithila is a place full of traditional customs where you can find even today a traditional mirror of Incredible India.
