Browsing

Our esteemed guest of Honour, Professor Niren Sengupta, is a professional painter and ex-principal of the College of Art, New Delhi. He is born in 1940 in Bengal, and Niren Sengupta’s journey is no less than a miraculous inspiration not only for the people in the art field but also for others who get a glorious chance to read or meet him. Though he graduated from science from Calcutta University his diversion towards art and exploring such great heights has been the universe’s grace and his fruitful efforts towards working for it.

He expresses his paintings beautifully because of his inner feelings, as for him art is the expression of inner-self. His communion with the happenings around himself and all that is going around in his life is what is shown ultimately in his paintings. While beauty could be found in any piece or part of this world, Professor Niren Sengupta finds it in the serenity of the total submission of monks of Ramakrishna Mission to the mission. Because he feels that what can be more beautiful than a mission to serve and sacrifice for mankind. And therefore the one who recognizes art can always find the common essences of his inner reflections infused with serenity, sacrifice, service and beauty.

He has been a part of several solos and prestigious group exhibitions where his art and his skills have always been appreciated widely. He has been awarded a lot of recognitions and revered awards like AIFACS Award and NBT Award in New Delhi; Award for Humanity Udayan Care; DSCWOS. The highest award he was honored by Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina when he was invited to Bangladesh.Artist and Professor Niren Sengupta

Over the span of 50 years of his professional journey, his achievements have sprawled enough to even step into teaching at both graduate and post-graduate levels. He is also the founder member of ‘Gallery 26’ in New Delhi, besides being a member of Calcutta painters and Executive member of the Academy of Visual Media, New Delhi. If one needs to have a glimpse of his prestigious collections of artworks, he can see it in the Lalit Kala Academy.

All in all, a very humble and modest person with a big baggage of numerous achievements.
